Background Innocent Chiedozie Odoemene is a Lecturer in the Department of Languages, (English and Literary Studies Unit) of the Faculty of Arts, University of Delta, Agbor, Nigeria. He was born on 16th April, 1967 at Umuoma-Ibu, Okigwe, Imo State of Nigeria. The son of a teacher, he attended Umuowa-Ibu Central School, Umuowa-Ibu, Okigwe and got his F.S.L.C. in 1977. He attended a number of secondary schools including Secondary Technical School, Ovim, Isuikwato, (1977-1980) Aquinas Secondary School, Osu Mbano (1980-1982) and All Saint Secondary School, Umunze (1982-1983) and got his WAEC results from the last two schools. He also attended Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri where he obtained N.C.E. (English/Igbo) in 1987. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained his B.A.Ed degree (English) in 1990. Thereafter, he went to Abia State University, Uturu for his M.A. degree in English which he obtained in 2012. He is currently running a PhD programme in English (Literature option) at the same Abia State University, Uturu. His areas of research interest are Poetry, prose, drama and literary criticism.
While in the services of the now defunct College of Education, Agbor, he was a four term Head of Department of Nigerian Languages, Asst. Coordinator, General Studies in Education, Asst. Dean School of languages and the last Dean of the school of Languages (2020-2022). He is the author of Letter to My Brother (1999), a novel, Ochu Nwa Okuko (1999), a play and Introduction to Igbo Language (2016).
In addition to his contribution of chapters in books, he has published over fifteen papers in reputable journals. Aside attending numerous conferences and workshops, he is a member of various associations including Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Association for Promoting Nigerian Languages and Culture, Association of Nigerian Languages Teachers, NICEGA and Nigeria (Football) Referees Association (N.R.A.).
